About the Role

This is a contractor role through X-Team. Our Partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design and build the native measurement and test engine at the core of a next-generation network testing instrument. The engine generates and analyzes Ethernet traffic, performs automated multi-layer connectivity testing, and implements industry-standard test methodologies, forming the performance-critical foundation on which the rest of the product depends.

This is performance-critical, hardware-adjacent C++ development on an embedded platform. You will be responsible for achieving and sustaining high-performance measurements while interfacing closely with the underlying hardware and the application layer above.

Most Important

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of professional software development experience, with significant system-level and networking C++ development.
  • Strong, hands-on modern C++, including multithreading and performance optimization.
  • Deep TCP/IP and networking fundamentals across the full stack, including Ethernet, IP, TCP/UDP, ARP, ICMP, VLAN tagging, Power over Ethernet, and Wi-Fi standards.
  • Hands-on experience with connectivity and service protocols (DHCP, DNS, ARP, ICMP, HTTPs, SNMP, CDP/LLDP).
  • Strong familiarity with the Linux development environment and Linux network libraries, including socket programming.
  • Proven experience writing performance-critical, low-latency, or high-throughput networking code.
  • Experience with embedded Linux and ARM cross-compilation platforms.
  • Proficiency with Git and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

Nice To Have

  • Hands-on experience with Claude Code (Anthropic's AI coding assistant) — highly preferred.
  • Experience interfacing C++ with register-level access, or NIC drivers.
  • Familiarity with network test standards, including RFC 2544, ITU-T Y.1564, and bit error rate testing (BERT).
  • Knowledge of high-speed networking technologies at 100G and above, including related optical transceivers and interfaces.
  • A background in test and measurement instrumentation.

Includes 4 screening questions.
