About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Back-End & AI Engineer to join a global newsroom transformation initiative focused on platform automation and AI-driven solutions. In this role, you’ll act as a key technical bridge between a distributed backend engineering team and international stakeholders across multiple regions.
You’ll work on a modern backend stack built primarily with Node.js and TypeScript, contributing to the design, development, and deployment of scalable services that integrate AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) into production systems. This role has a strong focus on AI enablement, backend reliability, and cross-time-zone collaboration.

Most Important

• 5+ years of backend development in distributed/microservices systems, with strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, Express.js, and PostgreSQL
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, including LangChain integration, prompt engineering (RAG, NLP), and ML/AI model support or fine-tuning using Python
• Strong understanding of backend architecture, scalability, performance, and third-party API integrations
• Experience with Git, Docker, CI/CD, and cloud platforms (GCP preferred, AWS acceptable)
• Comfortable working asynchronously with senior stakeholders across multiple time zones

Nice to Have

• Experience with Terraform and CI/CD tools (e.g., CircleCI)
• Experience integrating third-party AI vendors, with a background in media, publishing, or newsroom platforms
• PHP experience and prior work in startup or GTM-driven environments
